"The friendliest village in Devon!"
The floral displays in St Peter’s Church on Harvest Sunday were particularly beautiful and they were enhanced by lots of produce from various people’s gardens and kitchen store cupboards. We were pleased to welcome some new faces to our Harvest Service and the combined voices of the choir and congregation singing the traditional Harvest hymns was uplifting.
After the service, we were joined by our friends from the Methodist Chapel, and everyone gathered in the village hall, where we shared a most enjoyable salad lunch followed by very fattening trifles! Unfortunately quite a few people had to leave immediately after the lunch, but those that were left settled back to enjoy the combined antics of Malcolm Vincent and Tony Drew auctioning the Harvest produce. £106 was raised from the auction, and this together with the proceeds from the lunch, will be sent to St Anne’s Mission Hospital in Tanzania.

It was lovely to welcome everyone to our first community lunch following the summer break. There were some new faces as well, which is particularly pleasing, and seemingly they enjoyed themselves.
This time the menu was an egg cocktail, which doesn’t sound particularly inspiring, but it was tasty and there was nothing left on the plates, followed by a huge helping of moussaka and green beans, and pud was Sue Drew’s delicious apple and blackberry pie with ice cream. Coffee and sweeties to finish, and much talking was done by all!
As usual, a big thank you to all our helpers who make this event so enjoyable and smooth running.
Our next Community Lunch will be held in the Village Hall, Dalwood on Wednesday, 19 November starting at 12.30 pm. If you would like to come, please let either Sue Drew (01404 831365) or Glenda Venn (01404 831120) know by Sunday, 16 November. Cost is £4 per head. We look forward to welcoming you all, and if anyone wants a lift, then let Sue Drew know.
