"The friendliest village in Devon!"
Village Hall Development Bulletin 4 July 2008
As can be seen, the new toilets at the rear of the Hall are nearing completion. It is hoped to have partial completion by Fair Day. However, we have had a real shortage of voluntary help.
For those who have committed themselves, we owe a huge debt of gratitude. Whilst a number of people have helped when called upon, mention must be made of Phil Roberts who has been there since day one. Alan Fearnley, our professional builder, despite a period of illness and an accident in the family, has donated his time and advice, thus saving us thousands. Tony Drew, David Salmon, Don Lucas and Tim Morgan have also done sterling work over many weeks.
Since our last Bulletin, we have received further donations from villagers, all of whom wish to remain anonymous. So, together with the contributions from the Raft Club and the Badminton Club, we have been able to carry on. However, we have now depleted the Development Fund and are having to dig into our general reserve funds, and may have to consider taking out a short term loan.
Users of the Hall will have noticed that for their continued safety, we now have a Fire Alarm System with smoke and heat detectors, break glass units and sounders; the considerable cost again coming out of our reserve funds. The Trust is most grateful for the contribution, both financial and in time, from villagers and hopes that at the end of the first phase we will have facilities that reflect our determination to provide an improved and attractive village amenity.
